Cisco Clean Access

What is Cisco Clean Access?

Cisco Clean Access (CCA) is a network authentication system that certifies every user who logs tries to log onto the network. It is based upon your Cal Poly Portal username and password, so if you are a constituent of Cal Poly, you automatically have rights to use Mustang Wireless on Campus.

How does Cisco Clean Access work?

CCA interacts with users in a different manner depending upon the users current operating system. To view the Login Procedure for your operating system, go to Get Connected and click on the link for your operating system.

Windows 2000/XP/Vista users can download the Cisco Clean Access Agent in advance HERE. (Version 4.6.2.113, updated for Fall quarter 2009)

Macintosh users can download the Cisco Clean Access Agent in advance HERE. (Version 4.6.0.3, updated for Fall quarter 2009)

Here is a brief summary of CCA operations for the major operating systems:

  1. Upon first access to the new campus wireless system, Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Mac users will first login via any web-browser to get to the agent download page; you will only have to download the agent once, and after installing the agent, all Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Mac machines will login via that agent. NOTE: For Fall quarter 2009, Snow Leopard (10.6) users will not use the Agent...see "Get Connected" on this site.
  2. On your Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Mac machines, you will need to leave the agent running in your system tray; if it doesn't pop up automatically upon enabling wireless on your machine, just double-click (single for Mac) on that agent icon, which is teal in color with a picture of a key on it.
  3. Older Windows operating systems are not supported.
  4. Linux machines login via any web-browser and do not use the agent.
  5. As of October 3, 2007, the Cisco Clean Access Agent will be required for Macintosh computers.
